Two women convicted for assault

A Cape Coast Magistrate’s Court on Thursday sentenced Afia Ago and Maame Benewaa, both farmers, to a total fine of GH¢360.00 for assaulting one Mr. Kofi Obeng, a farmer at Bremang near Jukwa.

Kwaku Arthur, a student who was in the dock with them for failing to honour summons, had his sentence deferred and was remanded to reappear on June 12.

The convicts, who pleaded guilty, were each fined GH¢180.00 were also ordered to compensate the complainant with GH¢150.00.

Prosecuting, Inspector Samuel Amoako told the court that the complainant and the convicts were involved in a land dispute that was before court.

He said the convicts were served with notice of hearing which they objected to and on February 15 they met the complainant accosted him as to why he served them with the hearing notice.

Inspector Amoako said this resulted in the exchange of words between them during which the convicts hit the complainant with an object that caused his forehead to swell.

A report was made to the police and they were arrested.**
