Undertaker jailed four years for stealing

Akim Swedru(ER), Sept. 22, GNA - An Akim Swedru Circuit Court on Friday sentenced Daniel Yeboah 24, an undertaker to four years imprisonment with hard labour for stealing personal belongings of Madam Asantewaa Gyasi 70, at Asene near Oda. He pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that sometime in August, this year, Madam Gyasi detected that her room had been broken into and her belongings stolen. He said the accused lived near Madam Gyasi's house and had access to her key and made a duplicate with which he stole the items estimated at about 1,000 Ghana cedis.

Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo said Madam Gyasi upon a tip-off confronted the accused and reported the matter to the police who arrested him.

He said during a search in the accused's room, the police retrieved a mattress, an ice chest, a microwave oven, a heater and mattress covers but could not account for a carpet cleaner, a gas stove and a fan. The prosecution said after investigations the accused was charged with the offence.
