Oda Divisional Police Command takes stock of 2005 operations

Akyem Oda (E/R), Feb.1, GNA - Criminal cases recorded within the Akyem Oda Divisional Police Command in 2006 was 4,446 as against 4,566 cases in 2005, Chief Superintendent Ben Atadana, the Divisional Commander, has stated.

Speaking at a "WASSA" end of year reception at Akyem Oda on Wednesday, Chief Supt Atadana said the cases included assault, stealing, robbery, fraud, rape and defilement.

The WASSA celebration brought the Service Personnel together to take stock of the past year's activities and also outline strategies and plans for the coming year.

Mr Atadana said a total of 243 motor accident cases were recorded in 2006 as compared with 283 for 2005.

He acknowledge the commendable contributions and co-operation of civil society, the Courts, the District Administration, the Banks, the Mining Companies and the media to the police in combating crime. The divisional commander urged the police personnel to examine themselves and find out whether they served the community as disciplined and professional officers during the year under review.

He said since the Police Service was an indispensable institution, it was the duty of every member to help build and maintain a positive image through positive actions.

Mr Atadana charged the officers and men to work hard and to avoid acts that tend to discredit and bring the name of the Service into ridicule and disrepute.

"The command will not tolerate any negative conduct such as indiscipline and lack of civility towards the public", he warned. Likewise, no good work would go unnoticed, he said, adding that his Command would reward hard working officers.

Mr Atadana appealed to the various District Assemblies to help solve the accommodation and transport problems facing police. Seven policemen who distinguished themselves last year were presented with prizes.

They are Inspector Ibrahim Koomson Fosu, Inspector Peter Amoako Sarpong, Inspector Eric Samuel Appiah, Corporal Ebenezer Akrofi, Corporal Emmanuel Kwakye, Lance Corporal Adams Yakubu and Sergeant Lawrence Ahiasi.

Mr Justice E. B. K. Agbloyor, the Akyem Oda High Court Judge, who presided over the event, commended the police on their tireless efforts at maintaining peace.

The Akyem Oda Division comprises Akyem Swedru, Asamankese, Akwatia, Ofoase, Akyem Oda and Kade districts' police stations. 01 Feb. 07
