Diamond winner jailed six months for defrauding a trader

Akyem Oda, Aug 15, GNA- The Akyem Oda District Magistrates' Court last Tuesday sentenced Kwasi Ackah, a diamond winner on his own plea to six months imprisonment in hard labour for defrauding by false pretences.

Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor that both the complainant who is a trader and the convict reside at Oda Nkwanta and Akyem Gyadam respectively in the Birim South District. He said in June, the complainant approached Ackah that she wanted some washed sand diamond particles to buy and he told her to come for it in a weeks' time. On the appointed day, Ackah gave the woman two fertilizer sacks of the minerals valued at 450,000 cedis. The prosecutor said when the woman reached home and opened the bags she detected that the minerals were fake and reported the matter to her landlord. Ackah promised to refund the money but failed to honour his promise after persistent demands and they reported the matter to the police. 15 Aug 07
