Bibiani court remands two students in custody

Bibiani (W/R), June 06, GNA - A Bibiani magistrate court on Tuesday remanded two final year students of the Mpasatia Secondary/Technical School who allegedly attempted to sell three of their colleagues for 100 million cedis.

The accused persons, Godwin Biri Asamoah, 19, and Dolman Nti Jr, 22, whose plea were not taken, will re-appear on July 21. Prosecuting, police Chief Inspector A.C Frimpong of the Bibiani police told the packed court that the accused persons, both final year students of the Mpasatia Secondary/Technical School, called their friend at Sehwi-Bekwai that they had three persons for sale and that he should find someone to buy them.

He said the friend called the Bibiani police and informed them of the intensions of the accused persons.

Chief Inspector Frimpong said the police contacted someone to pose as the prospective buyer and gave his telephone number to the informant to be given to the accused persons.

He said the police booked a hotel at Bibiani to host the accused persons and their victims.

The prosecutor said on Jun e 04, the accused persons arrived at Bibiani and called the buyer to arrange for a private vehicle to pick them from the lorry station to the hotel.

He said at the hotel, the victims were made to remain in the vehicle outside while the accused persons and the buyer entered a room and negotiated.

Chief Inspector Frimpong said they agreed on 100 million cedis and the buyer gave them three million cedis cash and a cheque for 97 million cedis to be cashed at the Sehwi-Wiawso branch of the Agricultural Development Bank.

He said the accused persons took the money and the cheque and put them in their bag, but when they got out of the hotel room, the police arrested them.
