Don't get provoked ahead of elections - Rawlings

Thousands of NDC sympathisers on friday thronged the Tanoso township to welcome the former president, his excellency Jerry John Rawlings.

The large crowd, some who were riding on motor bikes, displayed their riding skills to demonstrate their joy at the arrival of Mr.Rawlings.

People, some carrying their children and waving miniature flags, lined up the streets to catch a glimpse of the former president. The crowd burst into hilarious joy when two police dispatch riders leading the convoy approached the main Tanoso township.

The crowd was so huge that the security personnel had a hectic moment controlling it.

He was met on arrival by NDC Parliamentary candidate for Techiman South,Adjei Mensah, and some regional executives of the National Democratic Congress led by the regional chairman,Opoku Atuahene

The former President's convoy moved at a very slow pace to the omanhene's palace where he was welcomed by the queen mother,Nana Abrefi.

Mr. Rawlings later jumped into an NDC campaign pick-up with the parliamentary candidate, where he addressed a large crowd in-front of the omanhene's palace.

In his address to the charged crowd, the former president advised the supporters not to get provoked ahead of the elections.

"We should not allow any kind of provocation from people that can lead to violence",he advised

"Let us make sure the election would be free and fair so that the elections would be accepted....when we corrupt the electoral process,it can lead to massive instability

"I listened to the debate last time,President Mahama spoke about corruption,Sakara spoke about it....what is the name of the other one..Nana Addo spoke about it and our friend Ayariga who i understand he is now Ayariga cough also spoke about it" he cautioned.

Mr Rawlings is expected to leave for Wenchi on saturday and the three nothern regions on sunday.
