MP Still Missing

..... Why is Nobody Looking For Him?
Attempts to locate Hon. Eric Amoateng, Member of Parliament (MP) have been unsuccessful. The MP for Nkoranza North in the Brong Ahafo region has not been seen in public (in Ghana) since Thursday, 10th November. None of his colleague MPs saw him last week.

Attempts to get him on his cell phone failed as it was switched off.

A couple of government officials we talked to did not seem to have a clue on his whereabouts. An NDC MP said ?you know where he is, so why do you ask?.

An Accra based police officer was surprised that a missing person report has yet to be filed, considering the missing person is ?such a high profile government official?

According to a local radio station - JOY FM - the American authorities have informed the government about the arrest of a man they describe as a ?prominent government official? for drug trafficking in New York.

The arrested man, bears the same name as the missing MP.

Hon. Amoateng is married with 6 children and is a member of the Constitutional, Legal & Parliamentary Affairs House Committee

MP Gone Missing?

19.11.2006 -- Hon. Eric Amoateng, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza North in the Brong Ahafo region, has gone missing.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP took a leave of absence from parliament on the 7th of November and has not been seen since. He is believed to have traveled to the United States. According to a leading member of parliament, Mr Amoateng did not attend any parliamentary session this week.

A lady who claimed to be a member of the MP?s family told our correspondent that the MP was in Accra. However, another member claimed he?d traveled abroad and was OK.

According to a local radio station - Joy FM - officials of the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) have confirmed that one of two Ghanaians arrested last week for drug trafficking in New York is a ?prominent government official? (READ).

The man, Eric Amoateng, bears the same name as the NPP Member of Parliament for Nkoranza.

The MP is a member of the parliamentary committee on constitutional, legal and parliamentary affairs.

Mr Amoateng, popularly known as Nana Amoateng, was regarded as a philanthropist in his constituency. During the 2004 election, he donated 10 million cedis in support of the Domeabra?s Electrification Project, gave five million cedis to the people at Bodom towards the purchase of low-tension poles for a similar project, donated two million cedis towards the construction of a borehole at Akrudwa Number One and presented five million cedis towards the construction of a palace at Baafi.

Mr Eric Amoateng also provided some bags of cement and roofing sheets for construction of the just completed 400-million-cedi six-classroom-block with an office and store in Bonte.
