Priest Shot Dead At Elimina

A seven member gang of armed robbers yesterday shot and killed a Methodist Church priest at about 2am at his residence at Emina-Boadi, a suburb of Kumasi. The killers then raided the home and collected ?5million, mobile cell phones, and jewellery. Until his death, he worshipped with the Amakom branch of the church.

The robbers who escaped arrest shot the evangelist, identified as Rev. Moses Okrobea Asante, who observed his 57th birthday last Tuesday, in his neck, resulting in his instant death. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the deceased was a committed Christian who has been preaching both at church and in communities to win more souls for the Calvary Methodist Church at Amakom in Kumasi.

Shock and grief gripped the rest of his household, as well as the entire community, when information about the pastor's death spread. Briefing the Daily Guide about the incident, the late Okrobea Asante's widow, Mrs. Janet Asante, stated that the robbers, after killing her husband, ransacked their rooms where they made away with two boxes of expensive jewellery and other valuable personal assets. According to her, they also robbed the bereaved family of assortment of decks, sound systems as well as four cellular phones, when they ordered her to lead them into their bedroom.

When one of her female children, Maame Efia attempted to contact the police, Mrs. Asante related that the robbers subjected her to severe beatings and disconnected the phone line into their house. She stressed that the robbers entered their house about 2a.m when the deceased was fast asleep and began to order them to release to them any dollar bill hey had on them or risk being killed. She could not identify the robbers but observed that they were young, energetic men who wore overall attires and covered their heads and wielded offensive weapons when they struck at the house.

The police assured the public that although the robbers escaped arrest, the police would mount an intensive search for their apprehension. The late Rev. Moses Okrobea Asante left behind a widow and seven children with two of them domiciled abroad.
