Guinea Bissau President Honour Nkrumah

Accra, July 22, GNA - Visiting President of the Transitional Government of Guinea Bissau, Mr Henrique Pereira Rosa on Thursday laid a wreath at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, in Accra in memory of Ghana's First President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Accompanied by a 15-member delegation, Mr Rosa observed a minute silence in memory of Dr Nkrumah, and took a tour of the Park and visited the Kwame Nkrumah Museum, which was a personal museum of Dr Nkrumah. On display are photographs, books and other memorabilia of the life and achievements of Ghana's First president.

Mr William Hrisir-Quaye, Director of the Park, took President Rosa, who signed the visitors' book, around.

President Rosa has since left for Abuja, Nigeria.

President Rosa first visited Ghana in December 2003 to attend the 27th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Accra. His latest visit was to bid farewell to President John Agyekum Kufuor and to thank him for his support and exemplary leadership during the Guinea Bissau crisis.

He paid tribute to President Kufuor his personal efforts in ensuring that the transitional period succeeded.

President Rosa's mandate ends on Sunday after the second round of voting in presidential elections in his country.
