The Eminent Advisory Committee of the Electoral Commission is currently meeting with Commissioners of the electoral management body over the controversy surrounding the compilation of a new voters register.
The meeting is intended to address concerns raised by some political parties over their opposition to the compilation of a new electoral roll.
The parties including the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Peoples National Convention(PNC) and Progressive Peoples Party(PPP) have opposed the move citing high cost involved in the compiling of a new voters register and timing.
Persons present at the crucial meeting include the Chairman of the EC’s Advisory Committee, Emile Short, Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof. Emmanuel Asante and Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose.
Sources say at the meeting say the EC is seeking to justify the need for a new voters register and also how the Committee can draw a roadmap to solve the misunderstanding and clear controversy surrounding the compilation of a new voters register has caused.
