As I grow, an NGO in the Eastern region has paid an urgent response to rescue three deprived communities in the Eastern region, namely Torgodo, Adebonsera and Oboadaso.
The donation forms part of the organization’s mission of assisting to improve the quality of education, healthcare and the general wellbeing of people in the deprived communities.
Some items donated to these deprived areas include clothes, wellington boots, Knapsack spraying machines, machetes, weedicides, Learning materials (exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers), school uniforms, bags and footwear for both children and adults.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Mr. Debrah Bekoe Isaac, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of (As I Grow) NGO explained that, the aim of the donation is to give hope and improve quality of education.
“No school, Lack of road, increased teenage pregnancy (peculiar to Torgodo) children unable to go to school due to distance to nearby school, lack of farm tools and agrochemicals support, Students unable to go to school when rivers overflow their banks because there are no bridges, lack of potable water, post-harvest loses due to lack of buyers and poor clothing on the part of children, youth and even some adults” he said.
He continued that; these numerous challenges prompted the organization into making a sudden swift to help the communities in their own small way.
“My outfit is ever ready to support any community whose challenges are within our reach” he said.
“We went there on 31st August 2019 after our findings to support them with clothes, knapsack spraying machines, machetes, Wellington boots, weedicides, learning materials (exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers) and uniforms to some of the children” he said.
The organization also educated the locals on how to reduce teenage pregnancies, the effects of teenage pregnancy, importance of girl child education, general importance of education and how to save money from their farm works.
Mr. Tetteh, a native of Togodo, hailed “As I Grow” for their exploits in the rural communities saying “we have heard so many positive things about this NGO and we thank you (As I Grow) for coming to our aid, especially with the free medical screening, it is very rare people this area experience such exercises, we are most grateful and we are also calling on the government and other non-governmental organizations to also come to our aid and help us develop our communities”
