3 Companies submit bids to Energy Ministry for oil block

Three (3) oil Companies have submitted their bids to the Ministry of Energy for the available oil blocks at the public opening of bids under the Ministry’s maiden Licensing Round.

The companies are: Tullow Ghana for block 3, First Exploration and Production for block 2, and Eni Ghana Exploration and Production Limited/Vitol for block 3.

Briefing Journalists at a short ceremony held at the Ministry, Director, Government Relations, Patricia Asaam said: “the LRC on January 21, pre-qualified fourteen (14) Companies to bid for Blocks 2, 3 & 4 as per the provision of the General Petroleum Regulations (LI 239).

Accordingly, invitation to tender was sent to all 14 cdmpanies and were given four (4) months to submit their bids”.

Patricia Asaam said the ITT contained the evaluation criteria, thus all bidders are fully aware of the criteria by which they will be evaluated”, with emphasis that, “the invitation to tender also contained a calendar of events and by that calendar, we have to publish the list of participating bidders on May 22, 2018” and the names of successful bidders will be announced on the 2nd of July, 2019.

The Head of Communications at The Ministry, Nana Kofi Oppong Damoah said “it’s an open and transparent process where Civil Society Organizations and The Media were invited to witness it, so that greater transparency that we seek to exhibit in the upstream petroleum industry remains very clear”.
