Rawlings was not stoned at Akim Oda - NDC

Akim Oda (E/R), Nov. 30, GNA - The Akim Oda Constituency branch of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has denied media reports that Former President Jerry John Rawlings was stoned at Akim Oda when he addressed a political rally in the town last Wednesday.

A statement issued by Mr Kojo Attah-Krah, a Constituency Executive Member of the NDC, said nobody came "under a hail of stones". It said a large enthusiastic crowd cheered Former President Rawlings as he arrived at the rally grounds at 2020 hours.

The statement said it was when he was about to address the crowd that an unidentified person threw a missile that injured one of the supporters, who was rushed to the hospital.

It said the incident did not mar the rally since Former President Rawlings addressed the crowd until 2120 hours before proceedings came to a halt at 2220 hours.

The statement said it was the next morning that the Former President and the Eastern Regional Chairman of the Party, Mr Fred Ohene-Kena heard of the incident.

It said it was most unfortunate and regrettable that such an isolated incident should be twisted and re-produced for political reasons to create tension and a potential danger for the nation.
