Policeman and five suspected armed robbers killed in Lambussie

Wa, Oct. 31, GNA - A Policemen and five suspected armed robbers were killed when the robbers attempted to raid a house at Lambussie in the Jirapa / Lambussie District of the Upper West Region on Friday night.

Even though the Police are tight-lipped because they said they had just started investigations, GNA inquiries have revealed that five armed robbers attacked a house at Lambussie but one of the residents succeeded in running out to raise the alarm.

The armed robbers engaged the community in a shoot-out but they were overpowered and arrested.

The driver and one of the robbers volunteered to take the Police to their hideout to arrest the others so three of them were kept in the Police cell.

On their way from Lambussie to Piina, a man emerged from the bush and stopped the vehicle. When the man saw the Policeman he shot and killed the three.

When the news about the death of the three got to Lambussie the people broke into the Police cell and lynched the three suspected armed robbers, who had been detained.

The Wa Police confirmed the incident but refused to give any details until they were through with investigations. The Police said the six bodies had been deposited at the Wa Regional Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.

The Police source said somewhere last week there was a similar robbery case at Nandom in the Lawra District during which a fuel dealer was robbed of his sales for the day.
