Deputy Gender Minister, Gifty Twum Ampofo, has indicated that her ministry will take a national approach towards the "HeForShe" campaign to replicate activities in the various regions across the country to eliminate gender biases by roping in men to join in the gender advocacy programme.
The Gender Ministry with the support of UN Women launched the HeForShe campaign in Accra on Monday, 12 December 2017 where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo underscored the role of women in the nation’s development, maintaining that gender parity is a prerequisite for Ghana’s development.
Speaking to Class News on the sidelines of the launch, the MP for Abuakwa North Constituency, urged men to seek the interest of women.
“In due course, we’ll go to the various regions to have this activity and inaugurate the ambassadors for HeForShe.
“When someone says HeForShe, what it means is that men or males who are female advocates, males who always want the interest of women, men who will always motivate women to see the sky as their limit. So, as we are lunching it, I’ll take advantage to appeal to everybody that as we develop, we need both men and women for Ghana to develop. We, therefore, appeal to men to seek the interest of women.”
