About forty (40) beneficiary of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) working under the Zoomlion Ghana Limited have been fired from the scheme in the Dormaa East District of the Brong Ahafo Region

“They defied labor laws of the country”, officials of the YEA claim

However, the Project Assistant of YEA, Mr. Anthony Oppong on Monday in a radio interview with Hello Fm in Kumasi said the exercise is aimed at cutting down excess spending by government in view of the fact that most of the beneficiaries vacated post and were still receiving salary.

According to Zoomlion Ghana limited, Government of Ghana owes it about GH¢440, Million for unpaid work done.

“We needed to investigate before payment is made. Though Zoomlion is a private company, its workers are paid by government through the YEA” Mr. Oppong revealed.

Mr. Oppong disclosed that, most workers who were affected did not perform their duties as expected of them, adding that some do not reside at their post making the agency doubt the credibility of their work claims.

The YEA Project Assistant indicated that at certain places, their investigative group visited showed those areas have not been swept for over a month yet beneficiaries claimed they were discharging their duties

“YEA has invited the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) to do thorough inquiry on the matter”, he disclosed

When asked when these suspended beneficiaries would be recalled, he declined further comment.

The Youth Employment Agency was established under the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2016 seeking to offer employment and requisite working experience to post National Service Personnel.
