Minister impressed with progress of work

Dodowa (G/R), June 23, GNA - Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Minister of Works and Housing, on Wednesday expressed satisfaction at the progress of work on the Dodowa/Adenta Water Improvement Project being undertaken at a cost of 9.6 billion cedis.

Work on the project which started in May this year when completed in about a month from now would solve Adenta's perennial water shortage problems.

The Minister inspected work on the Project, which is being funded under the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Fund. It involves the laying of 25 kilometre pipelines from Adenta to Dodowa to tap on an existing Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) borehole.

After inspecting the Project, Alhaji Idris commended the workers for the fast rate at which they were working and said the Government saw the provision of potable water to deprived communities in the country as its number one priority.

The Minister said the Government was also making major interventions in areas like Ashale-Botwe, Ashongman and Kwabenya where people continued to experience acute water problems.

Mr Samuel Odartey Lamptey, Managing Director of GWCL, said the Company was now exploring other areas with high water table level in the Region to drill more boreholes to supplement the existing distribution networks.
