Edumadze urges churches to invest in PSI

Agona Nyakrom, (C/R), April 30, GNA- Mr Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister has urged churches in the region to invest in the President's Special Initiatives (PSIs) in salt and palm oil to create employment for the people.

The Regional Minister gave the advice when he opened the 43rd Synod of the Winneba Diocese of the Methodist Church at Agona Nyakrom on Thursday.

Mr Edumadze said there is enough land in the region, which could be used for various industries to support the PSI.

He therefore, suggested to the Church to set up a committee to deliberate on how the Diocese could establish an industry to support the PSI.

"We in the region are lucky to have the Cape Coast University and Central Regional Development Commission to assist us in writing of a good project work" he said.

Mr Edumadze urged the churches to make efforts to equip the congregation with employable skills to help alleviate poverty among members.

He said he is optimistic that the region's abundant resources could help reduce poverty amongst majority of Ghanaians.

The Regional Minister asked the churches to complement government's efforts at improving the lives of the people, since government alone could not provide all the social needs of the people.

Mr Edumadze disclosed that, government has with immediate effect, instituted a free delivery system for pregnant women to reduce maternal mortality in the Region.

He urged Christians to support government in its attempts to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections in December.

The Regional Minister urged Christians to advise various communities to choose good and upright leaders to represent them in Parliament.

Bishop Jeremiah Morrison of the Winneba Diocese of the Church, said from 2001 to 2004, societies in the church had grown from strength to strength adding that five new circuits would be created next year.

In the area of Human Resource Development, Bishop Morrison said some members of the church had been selected for training to become full accredited local preachers to evangelise in order to win more souls for the Church. 30 April 04
