Crowd violence has taken yet another ugly turn in Ghanaian football as head coach of second-tier side Elmina Sharks - Kobina Amissah was mercilessly beaten to a pulp opposition fans after his side nicked an away win in the Ghanaian Division One League.
Fans of the home side - Proud United, went on a rampage at the final whistle at the Gyandu Park in Sekondi, descending on Sharks players and technical team, beating the head coach and leaving him half-dead.
With security men obviously overpowered by the tyrant fans, rescuers came in, retrieved the dying coach from the tirade before rushing him to hospital in Sekondi.
Reasons for attacks on the coach's life is still sketchy but in recent weeks, officiating officials, players, and fans have suffered attacks in both top-flight and lower-tier football in Ghana.
Amissah has guided Sharks to the top of the Zone 2 table and are in pole position to snatch promotion to the Ghanaian top-flight.
Sharks seem to be at the receiving end of the violence in the recent clashes. In mid-May, weed-smoking fans of a Division One club True Democracy, invaded the field of play during an FA Cup game and held players and match officials hostage for close to 40 minutes.
Okwahu United and King Solomon have recorded violent incidences in their venues and copped sanctions from the Ghana FA but the action from the FA's Disciplinary body is obviously not enough to curb the disturbing trend.
