Ashanti and Brong Ahafo chapters support chief patron

Kumasi (Ashanti Region) 30 Nov '98 The Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Chapters of Accra Hearts of Oak Football Club have declared their support for Nana Wereko Ampem, Chief Patron and "Father" of the club. At a meeting of the various chapters in Kumasi at the weekend in the wake of the confusion in the club, the supporters said Hearts do not belong to any particular ethnic group but to all Ghanaians. The two regional chapters, therefore, called for peace and unity in Hearts to enable the club to prepare adequately for next year's African Clubs champions league. Mr H.M. Sani, National Cahpters Committee Organiser, said the present board of directors is solidly behind the chief patron and debunked accusations that the management has not accounted for its stewardship. He said it was the old board which placed an injunction on the management, preventing it from holding the congress and this has resulted in the accounts not being rendered. Mr Sani said the constitution of Hearts states that any member who takes the club to court automatically opts out of the club and that by their action they, therefore, no longer belong to the club. Dr Osei Sampene, chairman for the occasion, called for peace and unity to enable the club to concentrate on its impending participation in the African continental soccer competition next year.
