Harvey retains Tema Open golf trophy

Tema (Greater Accra) 30 Nov. '98 J.J. Harvey retained the Tema Open Golf Championship trophy when he scored 145 gross to win this year's competition played at Tema at the weekend. Kingsley Amegantse took the second position with 146 gross, Kofi Elias was third with 147 gross while J. Bannerman took the fourth position with 149 gross score. In the Handicap event,. G.H. Han came first with 137 net, Larry Chinebuah was second with 139 net, S. Gadkari, third with 141 net and Kofi Addo, fourth with 143 net. Florence Etwi-Barimah won the Ladies event with 166 gross, beating Young Kim on countback while Moenyei Chikohora took the third position with 168 gross. Francisca Vandyck won the Handicap event with 142 net, beating Esther Bhavnani on countback and Valentine Manteaw came third with 144 net. The Professional event was won by Kofi Nimako with 209 gross, beating Victor Brave-Mensah on the sudeden death. R.K. Degbe took the third position with 211 gross and E.K. Korblah, fourth with 213 gross. The three-day competition dubbed" Hankook Tire", sponsored by Afko Imex Limited, attracted over 150 golfers throughout the country. The Executive Director of Afko Imex, Mr J.J. Cho was very happy about the number of participants in this year's competition and gave the assurance that his company would sponsor next year's event. Mr S.M. Park, Korean Ambassador to Ghana who was the special guest, said the Korean Society in Ghana has established a scholarship scheme for students to train in Korea.
