21 Motorists Fined

Wa (Upper West Region). Sept. 23, '98

Twenty-one motorbike riders at Wa were arrested for various traffic offences between August and September this year and paid a total of 1.5 million cedis as fines. The culprits were arrested during an exercise mounted by the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service at Wa aimed at instilling discipline in motorists in the township. The offences included the use of motorbikes without road worthiness certificates, valid insurances, crash helmets, licences and number plates. They were arraigned before the Wa community tribunal chaired by Mr Imoro Ziblim and fined within the ranges of 30,000 and 100,000 cedis. Mr Ziblim warned that he would deal drastically with anyone brought before him for commiting similar offences.
