The Managing Director for Accra Hearts of Oak has indicated that the Elite Cup is causing more harm than good to the league clubs in Ghana.

The Elite Cup competition was instituted to keep clubs in good shape, following King Faisal’s court case against the Ghana Football Association.

As a result of that the Ghana Premier League and the division 1 were put on hold and to enable clubs enjoy some competitive football, the Elite Cup was ushered in without any sponsorship package in place.

Gerald Ankrah has expressed the predicament of the clubs as they compete in the Elite Cup without any financial benefit for them.

“The Elite Cup is a way of adding to cost of clubs, without getting the necessary compensation for that. Something more should be done to attract sponsors to help cushion the teams,” he told Fox fm.

Hearts of Oak are one of the sixteen clubs who are still participating in the cup competition.
