A sex worker in Accra has vehemently denied claims that police officers always attempt to sleep with them after swoops.

‘Sex for freedom’ pact between police officers and prostitutes is a widely held perception as many of the sex workers themselves have alleged that the police often force themselves on them after swoops.

It is illegal to practice prostitution in Ghana, but there is public knowledge of areas in the capital and other parts of the country where the business is heavily established and well patronised.

In an interview with Morning Starr host Kafui Dey, one of the ‘night workers’ said it is not true that police officers demand sex from them.

“It is not true. I have been doing this business for six months and I haven’t witnessed that. I haven’t heard any of my friends talking about such a thing too.

“That is what people say outside, but it is not true that the Police officers demand sex from us,” she said.
