Ghana didn’t cheat in Olympic qualifiers – Salam

A management member of the Black Meteors, Yakubu Abdul Salam, has rubbished claims that Ghana fielded overage players during the 2016 Olympic Games qualifier at the Accra Stadium last Saturday.

The Congo Under-23 team coach Claude Le Roy has alleged some of the Meteors players had worked under him while he was in charge of the Ghana home-based team that featured in the CHAN qualifiers in 2008 and insists they are all above the age sealing.

There are fears that Ghana could be banned from the Olympic Games qualifiers if CAF decides to investigate the claims made by the Frenchman.

However, Salam has told Starr Sports a lot of checks were done to ascertain the ages of the current crop of Meteors players before they were invited.

“I will call this as an allegation because any time we call a player into the national team, we do all the necessary checks from his club, FA and his passports so we don't have any issue of that sort and with the coach I don't know what his problem is,” Salam insisted.
