Bui Dam was an engineering disaster - Lee Ocran

The Board Member of the Volta River Authority has described the Bui Dam, Ghana’s second largest hydro dam as an engineering disaster which did not yield any substantial benefit to Ghana.

Hon Lee Ocran who was a Minister in charge of Education said the dam situated in the Brong Ahafo Region is one of the white elephant projects Former President Kuffour of the New Patriotic Party bequeathed to the people of this country.

The Former Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region who admitted that the power crisis the country is going through is crippling the nation socio-economically wondered how the members of the opposition NPP make a u-turn to castigate the current administration for its inability to solve the power crisis.

Hon Lee Ocran who now heads the board of the Nation’s Power Producer stated that many Ghanaians are blaming John Mahama led government without taking time to find out the actual cause of the power crisis.

In an interview with Kwame Tutu on Frontline of Rainbow Radio 87.5 fm he blamed successive governments after Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for virtually doing nothing to keep Ghana out of the present crisis.

Hon Lee Ocran who currently serves as the 6th National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress blamed his Party’s communication outfit for poorly educating Ghanaians on the causes of the power crisis and government initiatives to permanently deal with it.

He revealed that he pity the President for the lies technocrats have told him which have led him (the president) to give timelines to the end of the power crisis which did not materialize.

He disclosed that the power sector will continue to face challenges because some locals and foreigners tap the power illegally as well as the sector owes huge debts.

Hon Ocran was however optimistic that various initiatives by the government will end the crisis soon.
