Fresh clashes at Agbogbloshie

Fresh clashes have ensued between Dagombas and Zamramras at Agbogbloshie in Accra hours after the police restored calm.

At least two people were injured when the two ethnic groups engaged in a gun battle Tuesday over open defecation involving a two-year-old girl.

According to Starr News’ Osei Owusu Amankwah, the clashes erupted again Wednesday morning as some traders were prevented from doing business in the area occupied by rival ethnic groups.

He said members of the two ethnic groups pelted stones at each other while some were wielding machetes among other weapons to attack their rivals.

The police have beefed up security to restore calm.

Five people including a police officer sustained injuries Tuesday when the violence erupted at the Agbogbloshie market.

The two ethnic groups clashed after the little girl defecated in an area occupied by the Hausas. The Hausas did not take kindly to it and spanked the little girl which angered the Dagombas prompting them to retaliate.

Several houses were set ablaze during the melee and the police had to fire warning shots to restore law and order.

This is the third time Hausas and Dagombas have clashed in the area. No death has been recorded yet.
