Autopsy on 4 deceased Ghanaians in South Africa today

Police in South Africa’s Free State will on Monday, April 20 conduct autopsy on four Ghanaians found dead in a salon in the northern city of Heilbron over the weekend.

“The police are saying they can only give us further information on Monday when they do the autopsy and then we will know the cause of death,” said Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Kwesi Ahwoi.

Mr Ahwoi was speaking with TV3’s Narkwor Kwabla on Notebook on Sunday when he made the disclosure.

Xenophobic attacks in South Africa have raised fears among Ghanaians living there as one has already been confirmed dead.

But the death of the four Ghanaians, who were found foaming at the mouth, has not yet been linked to the recent attacks.

Heilbron is an area that has not registered or known any xenophobic violence, Mr Ahwoi says, it has not recorded any yet.

The Former Interior Minister says a delegation from the High Commission has been sent “to go and verify.”

The identities of the four are yet to be known, he indicated.

But the accident involved one gentleman, two ladies and a baby.

“The police had to break the salon down for them to go and see them dead.”

Meanwhile, Mr Ahwoi has advised government to hasten slowly over any evacuation plans as regards the xenophobic attacks.

He said since the government of South Africa has given an assurance to end the violence, the High Commission will be monitoring the situation in the coming days to advise government on the way forward.

He said as of now, no Ghanaian has requested to return home.
