Contempt suit against Afoko, Agyepong thrown out

An Accra Fast Track High Court has struck out a suit against the National Chairman of the NPP and General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong for contempt.

The court's decision was taken after the leadership of the NPP agreed to suspend the parliamentary primaries in some three constituencies until constituency elections in those areas are re-organised.

Three members of the NPP - Kwame Owusu Ansah, Sarpong Kumankuma and Anthony Gyamfi Ameyaw - had already been to court to compel the party leaders to re-run elections in the Juaben, Kumawu and Manhyia constituencies.

The Supreme Court unanimously dismissed the application for certiorari brought by the NPP Kumawu chairman, Joseph Danso, against the settlement reached between the party and its members in the three constituencies.

But the three members dragged the party leaders to court again for refusing to re-run the elections as directed by the Supreme Court.

Lawyer for the three members Dr. Poku Adusei in an interview said Starr News said the case was struck out after his clients decided not to further pursue the matter in court.
