Ghana targets output 1.2m tonnes of cocoa beans this year

Ghana will hit the target of producing 1.2 million tonnes of cocoa beans by the end of the 2014/2015 cocoa season, says a Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) official.

The Suhum District Cocoa Officer of the Health and Extension Division of COCOBOD, Michael Gyasi, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at his office in Suhum, about 70 kilometres north, Monday that the records available indicated that the nation's production of cocoa beans was below one million metric tonnes, and it was expected that by the end of the season, Ghana would be able to achieve its output target.

According to Gyasi, the government was working hard to achieve the set target for Ghana and to sustain it in order to ensure that the country becomes the world leader in cocoa production by next year.
