Reckless Indiscipline! NDC must control its executives

A Political party is a collection of individuals with different backgrounds, status and educational levels. In fact, in every human institution, disagreements are bound to happen, but it must be managed in the best interest of the party.

It is as a result of the above that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) must strongly discipline its members, particularly, some of the newly-elected executives (both regional/national) or their aides, from recklessly attacking innocent Ghanaians, given the mandate Constitutionally to manage affairs of Ghana.

In the last few days, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan and his Ashanti Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Nathan Kofi Boakye, have suffered some irresponsible attacks from some regional officers.

In the wake of the recent police recruitment scandal, the Eastern Regional chairman of the ruling NDC, Bismarck Tawiah-Boateng, hastily demanded the dismissal of the IGP by the President.

Offering some weak and weird reasons, the NDC Eastern Regional Chairman was quoted in last Monday’s edition of the Publisher newspaper as saying; “the IGP was supposed to have gone on retirement but was given a contract because the law allows that and this scam has occurred. I do not have any qualms about the extension of his tenure.

However, this scam has occurred under him, and he must take full responsibility and resign or President Mahama should sack him”.

If indeed, the quotations attributed to Tawiah-Boateng were his words, then, what it means is that he lacks basic understanding of the issue at stake, and should not be commenting on the matter - following the contradictions in his own statement.

The Eastern Regional chairman, acknowledges the fact that the IGP has taken full responsibility of the scam, and has instituted a task force to investigate the issue further, just as President John Dramani Mahama has done in the “dumsor” crisis; but promised to fix it perpetually; yet, he says that the IGP must be sacked, or to avoid embarrassment, resign.

What can this be, than a reckless and completely childish statement coming from Bismarck Tawiah-Boateng, who feels that he must speak “at all cost” (apologies to Nana Addo), even when he lacks basic understanding and cannot make any meaningful and logically deductions from a subject under discussion.

In a related development from the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi; DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, is under serious attack for discharging his duties professionally as required by law to restore law and order in the metropolis and the region at large, from some unscrupulous NDC activists.

One Linford Owuo aka CD, believed to be an errand boy for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Yaw Obimpeh, has fixed a very big poster on his vehicle with the inscription “Kofi Boakye Must Also Go” alongside a photograph of President John Dramani Mahama, which he drives in town.

Puerile on his part, Linford Owuo holds the view that because the President has relieved Mr. Samuel Sarpong and Joseph Yamin of their post as Minister and Deputy respectively, same must apply to the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye.

The accounts above show how indiscipline is fast being ingrained in the NDC, and the earlier the situation is arrested the better it would be for both party and government.

However, we implore the police and other state officials to discharge their duties without fear or favour and irrespective of whose ox is gored.
