Frances’ political career in NPP gloomy...

as Rashid Bawa Eyes Adentan Seat

Madam Frances Awurabena Essiam, the 2012 Parliamentary Candidate (PC) of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Adentan Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has no option but to end her political career anytime soon; following credible information available to this paper.

Having left the NDC after its Koforidua Congress in December 2006 to join Dr. Yaw Obed Asamoah’s Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) and then to NPP, Madam Frances Essiam won the Adentan Constituency primaries to contest as Parliamentary Candidate (PC) in the 2012 general elections, but lost miserably.

This time round, Essiam, with varied political backgrounds, will not have it easy as Mr. Rashid Bawa, one time NPP PC for the Akan Constituency in the Volta Region, per reports picked up, has sworn to unseat her at the primaries.

According to this paper’s insider sources, Rashid Bawa holds the view that he is better placed in the party and society as regards his track record - to win back the Adentan seat for the NPP- and it was important that Madam Frances Awurabena Essiam knows her smoothness level.

One source said; “our boss (Rashid Bawa) has started campaigning on the quiet, interacting with groups and opinion leaders in the NPP in the Constituency, regarding the soon-to-be-announced primaries in such orphan Constituencies.

As a very polish and humble gentleman, he stands a better chance of winning the seat back for the NPP than Frances, who is seen more of a firebrand in her political discourse”.

Similarly, the former Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister, Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Siddique, is on his heels to the Madina Constituency, even though nobody is chasing him out of Salaga.

According to information reaching this paper, Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Siddique, who contested one of the Salaga seats (South) in the Northern Region, but lost, has moved camp to the Madina Constituency, since he cannot survive if he dares contest again in the aforementioned Constituency following development projects being undertaken in the district by the NDC government.

It would be recalled that, the NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Bugri Naabu, once referred to Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Siddique as a joke, when his name popped up as one of the candidates likely to become Nana Addo’s running-mate in 2008.

More anon.
