League Preview: Lions vow to intimidate newly promoted WAFA

John Killa and his WAFA boys will definitely be intimidated on their trip to the dreaded Kpando Park as they visit the roaring Heart of Lions on Sunday on match day 10 of the Ghana Premier league.

This will be WAFA’s first trip to Kpando since gaining promotion into the First Capital Plus Premier League this season.

Lying second on the league table, the Lions are desperately looking forward to cementing their position after they nearly snatched a win from the claws of AshGold in their week 9 encounter which saw Joshua Tijani score an injury time goal to split the points at the Len Clay Stadium.

No wonder head coach of Lions, Yusif Abubakar cried after the equalizer.

With 15 points in 3rd position, Lions have scored 11 goals and only 7 have entered their net while WAFA has scored relatively a lesser number of goals, 9, but with a similar concession rate in 5th position with 13 points.

The Kpando Park has been a no-go venue for mighty clubs like Kotoko and Hearts and a miracle will be recorded in the history of Ghana sports should the newcomers pick a win at Kpando.

Speaking ahead of the game, Coach Yusif Abubakar hinted at the seriousness of his team ahead of the game but declined to react to reports about the inclusion of John Kuffour.

“Football is full of unbelievable happenings and WAFA has not been a bad side since joining the league. It is true that they did not start well, but it is also possible that they can upset us.

However, I have worked on what has led to the 7 goals we have conceded so far and hope to improve upon that in our next game. I have watched them and they are not a bad side. They handle and try to possess the ball, but that will be better done at Sogakope and not Kpando”.

“John Kuffour is our player and even though the statistics suggest his inclusion usually cost us in some games he will play. We will talk more about that assertion after this game”, Yusif Abubakar added.
