Mismanagement is simply the cause of ‘dumsor’- Bawumia

The 2012 Running Mate of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia, may have stoked yet another debate blaming the worsening power crisis simply on economic mismanagement than a problem of a shortfall in power generation.

Dr. Bawumia, who led one of the massive demonstrations in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi in recent years, says the problems facing the NHIS, GetFund, and all other sectors of the economy is the result of mismanagement by the President John Dramani Mahama.

“This dumsor problem is not a problem of generation at all. It is a problem of mismanagement of the economy”.

The anti-government march dubbed "Yabre" drew thousands of angry demonstrators who say their action was aimed at reminding Government about the hardship the citizens are facing. Clad in red and black, angry demonstrators young and old, feeble and strong walked for several kilometres with placards to send their messages across.

Several traders and market women locked up their shops to participate in the march, which has been touted by observers as unprecedented in Kumasi. The massive turnout was expected as the region remains the stronghold of the opposition NPP.

The pro-NPP group, Movement for Change, which organized the march says government appears to have lost sight of the untold frustrations brought upon the citizenry by the current power crisis.

The demonstration is a replica of the massive 'Won gbo' demonstration that hit the streets of Accra last week Wednesday. The 'Won Gbo', which meant we are dying, was organized by the entire leadership of the party led by its flagbearer.

The 'Yabre' demonstration which means 'We are tired' was endorsed by the party's national leadership, with Dr. Bawumia and other key party members leading the march. Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare, who’s Chairman of the group that organised the demonstration says the march was largely successful.

He said if the power crisis in particular does not improve soon, the demonstration will be repeated in other regional capitals.

The Police Command in the Ashanti Region says the demonstration went well according to their expectation. He says the demonstrators conducted themselves well. He says the police had planned adequately for the march hence the success.
