Atsu: I wasn’t expecting Afcon best player award

Everton winger Christian Atsu has said he was not expecting to be the best player at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Atsu has therefore promised his fans they are going to witness a different style of play from him after being boosted by the ultimate individual award.

Atsu was Ghana’s standout player in Equatorial Guinea after some fascinating performances that earned him the Goal of the Tournament and Best Player awards.

He helped the Black Stars to place second behind Ivory Coast after a nervy penalty shootout.

“I thank God for what he has done for me,” the former Porto player told Everton’s website. “I always expect good things from Him but I wasn’t expecting to be the best player in the tournament.

“Any gift that comes from God I appreciate so much and it has given me a lot of confidence and motivated me for the future.”

He added: “I was happy with my performances and I worked very hard. I had a lot of help from my teammates contributing to my good form.”
