Chief of Staff position: Debrah has an edge over Bani

New Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has an advantage over his immediate predecessor Prosper Bani because he is a party man and also has established a fair amount of affinity with traditional leaders and the grassroots of the governing while he served as Minister at the local government and rural development ministry, political science lecturer at the University of Ghana Dr. Alidu Seidu has told Morning Starr host Kafui Dey.

“That gives him a little bit of experience and an edge over Mr. Prosper Bani,” Dr. Seidu said Monday on Starr 103.5 FM.

Debrah’s introduction of the monthly national sanitation day clean-up exercise at the local government ministry, shot him to fame.

Mr. Bani has been caught up in a power play game at the presidency with the president’s executive secretary Dr. Raymond Atuguba and Communications Director Ben Dotsei Malor Debrah in the past few months.

Dr. Atuguba and Mr. Malor have both resigned. While Atuguba is going back to academia as a lecturer, Mr. Malor is returning to the UN after his leave of absence expired.

Mr. Bani will be appointed as an Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary.

Starrfmonline.com broke the news about Bani's exit three weeks ago over a power struggle, but the Presidency remained mum over the issue.

A statement signed by Minister for Communications Dr. Edward Omane Boamah also announced the reassignment of William K. Aboah as an Adviser responsible for the restructuring of NACOB into a Commission.

He will also assume the Chairmanship of the NACOB when the Board is constituted.

Baba Issifu Kamara, a Senior Adviser for Special Duties is the new National Security Adviser, while Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Johnny Osei Kofi, also moves to the Flagstaff House as a Deputy Chief of Staff.

The statement noted the President’s appreciation for the work carried out by all the officials who have exited, and expressed confidence in the capabilities and experience of the new appointees.

The President expects the new appointees to be committed to the task of managing the affairs of the Office of the President in order to realize his vision for the economic transformation of Ghana.
