Barton Oduro threatens to sue Media houses

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ebo Barton Oduro has threatened to sue some media houses for “misrepresenting” his recent comments on the power situation in the country.

The Member of Parliament was reported by some media outlets to have asked business owners not to blame their inability to manage their businesses on the erratic power situation in the country.

Ghana has been experiencing serious challenges with its power sector for the past few years resulting in hardships on businesses and domestic consumers.

Between 440 and 650 Megawatts of power is shed during off-peak and peak periods due to the supply shortfall, a situation which has resulted from poor water level in three hydro-electric power stations – Akosombo, Bui and Kpong – as well as faulty equipment, lack of gas from the West Africa Gas Pipeline for thermal power production as well as lack of funds to buy light crude oil.

Speaking on Radio Gold’s ‘Alhaji and Alhaji’ Saturday, the former deputy Attorney General said he never made the statements that have been attributed to him.

According to him, those media houses deliberately twisted his comments to court public disaffection towards him.

“I’m taking the matter seriously and I will not let it go.

“In fact, I have decided to sue them; and I will sue,” he fumed.
