Chief appeals for sponsorship for brilliant students

Nana Yaw Oppong, the Krontihene of Kobedi in the Sunyani West District, has appealed for educational sponsorship for brilliant but needy students in the community.

He said most of the junior high school graduates were unable to further their studies due to financial constrains and called for assistance from the assembly.

He made this appeal when Madam Agnes Kusi, the Sunyani West District Chief Executive, called on the chief as part of a tour some communities in the district.

The chief said if this was not done, the youth could engage in nefarious activities to the detriment of the area’s development.

The communities the DCE visited included Timbankwanta, Akuwaasua, Asuakwaa and Tanomu.

At Asuakwaa Nana Kwesi Yeboah, the Chief, called for the establishment of a new school as the old school, built in 1952, had not seen any major renovation and described it as a death trap.

He also requested for a computer laboratory which would enhance teaching and learning, adding that technology was now the order of the day.

Members of the community in Akwaasua enumerated some of their challenges as lack of portable drinking water, bad nature of their road and lack of a health facility.

The situation at Tanomu was not different as the community called for electricity, portable drinking water and a good road.

Madam Agnes Kusi noted their concerns and promised to address them accordingly.

She appealed to them to approach the upcoming assembly election inh peace as the assembly election was non- partisan.
