Tamale residents upbeat about NSD

The nationwide crusade by the Local Government Ministry to rid the nation of filth is expected to be hugely patronized in Tamale today, February 7.

The Northern regional Capital is hosting today's edition of the exercise after similar ones in other regional capitals.

Already, wheel burrows, boots and litter bags have been distributed among residents. The Local Government Ministry has also increased public education on today’s exercise to improve public patronage.

The ministry is using traditional rulers, security personnel and youth groups for public education on tomorrow’s exercise.

The local government minister Julius Debrah told Starr News he is hopeful these measures will whip up interest in the exercise.

“There is the need for us to explain to our people the need to keep our surroundings clean.

“Unfortunately, there was a recent UN report which stated that Ghana was among the least countries in terms of sanitation.

“And then there was cholera outbreak in Accra because of sanitation issues, so there is the urgent need to keep our surroundings clean,” he noted.
