Edu Ministry charges GES to solve grievances of teachers

The Education Ministry says it is yet to receive official complaints of some disgruntled teachers serving under the teacher rationalisation programme.
The Ministry began a teacher rationalisation programme recently to map the availability of teachers and have them fill vacancies in deprived areas.
This has culminated in a massive transfer of basic and senior high school teachers, especially in urban areas to some remote rural settlements. Some teachers in the Ashanti region have, however, raised serious concerns about how they are being transferred to other regions without enough notification.
The teachers, who belong to groups such as Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and National Association of Graduates Teachers (NAGRAT), have accused the Ashanti Regional Education Director, Mr. Safo Kantanka of undertaking the rationalisation programme without any sensitivity to their welfare.
According to them, what is more worrying is that pregnant teachers are also being transferred without any proper communication and notice.
The teachers have also accused the Education Directorate of not paying the affected teachers their three-month advanced salary as mandated by transfer policies.
But speaking to Ultimate Breakfast Show host Prince Minkah on Monday, Deputy Minister in charge of secondary education, Alex Kyeremeh called on such dissatisfied teachers to channel their grievances to the right quarters.
