Transport fares reduced by 5%

Transport fares have been reduced by 5% following a reduction in fuel prices, the Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union (GPRTU) has confirmed.

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) at the beginning of the year announced a 10% reduction in petroleum prices following a fall in crude oil prices on the world market.

The decision to reduce transport fares was taken at a stakeholders meeting including the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council Wednesday.

The Secretary General of the GPRTU Stephen Okudzeto confirmed the reduction, saying the new prices will take effect Friday, January 9, 2015 at the various stations.

“We’ll do the calculation for the drivers to avoid any unnecessary argument at the stations,” Okudzeto told Starrfmonline.com.
