Nayele entitled to one-third of her sentence – Ex-Crown Prosecutor

A lawyer and a former senior Crown Prosecutor in the United Kingdom, Godwin Adjei-Gyamfi has said Nayele Ametefeh is entitled to one-third of her sentence under English law.

The Isleworth Crown Court in the UK Tuesday sentenced Nayele to eight years and eight months in prison.

“Because she had pleaded guilty at the early stages it means that she is entitled to one-third of that sentence…

"What she would serve is two-third of that sentence before she is entitled to be considered for parole. And if she is entitled to parole she would serve the remainder on license. …Two thirds of eight years and eight months is about five years nine months and couple of days - solid - before she would even be considered for parole,” Adjei-Gyamfi told Starr Today host Bernard Nasara Saibu.

The 32-year-old mother of three was arrested on November 10 at the Heathrow Airport after attempting to enter the UK with 12kg of cocaine bearing a street value of £1.9 million in her hand luggage.

She was subsequently charged with Class A drug trafficking and was arraigned before court.

Before her sentence on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, Nayele pleaded with the court to repatriate her to Austria after her sentence to ensure her security because of the high level of public interest in the case.
