Peasant farmers shifting to organic farming

The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, PFAG has announced plans to partner government to introduce organic fertilizers in the country.

This follows complaints from some peasant farmers about the harmful effects of inorganic fertilizers on the soil.

Programmes Officer of PFAG, Charles Nyaaba says the association has started making proposals to government to enable it work with the Accra Compost and Recycling plant towards that end, from next year.

Nyaaba says this is part of the association’s alternatives to increasing the practice of organic farming in the country.

“We are trying to move a bit away from the inorganic fertilizer to organics farming and compost is far better than inorganic fertizer,” he told Europa Taylor in an interview.
