Paul Afoko denies resignation rumours

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said it has not issued any directive to constituency executives to resign their current positions before December 31, 2014 before they can contest in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

According to the national chairman of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition, Paul Afoko, the rumour must be ignored because nothing of such nature has been decided at national level as of now.

“It has come to my attention that some instruction has gone to constituency executives interested in contesting in the upcoming parliamentary primaries to tender in their resignation before December 31, 2014. The directive also mandates all such interested persons to submit their applications and CVs for pre-vetting,” Afoko said in a statement Friday.

He added: “I wish to stress that the directive is unauthorized and must be ignored by all constituency executives across the country. Under the NPP Constitution, only the National Executive Committee and the Steering Committee are empowered to take such a decision and on this occasion, no such decision has been taken by any of the bodies empowered to do so.

“The constitution is the guiding document for our activities and I wish to implore all party members to remain calm and respect the party’s constitution.”
