NPP fears losing 2016 if ‘GYEEDA’ law is passed – Akyeampong

Executive Director of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), Kwabena Akyeampong, has descended heavily on the Minority in Parliament, saying its position on the National Youth Employment Agency Bill “is flawed”.

Kobby Akyeampong, as he is widely known, said the Bill is to get the structures such as the various positions of GYEEDA in place and not to change the mission and vision of the programme.

“It is an establishment bill,” he stated on Tuesday, December 16, in an interview on TV3.

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament on Monday, December 15, raised red flags over the Bill, accusing government of rushing it to satisfy its selfish interest.

“The Minority is not against the passage of any law for the programme,” said Isaac Kwame Asiamah, MP for Atwima-Mponua Constituency. “But it is instructive to note that a mere passage of the law will not stop the ‘create, loot and share’ instinct of this government”.

But Mr. Akyeampong said the Minority “is just playing pure partisan politics with this” as its members have been involved in all nine meetings held over the Bill.

“When this bill is passed into law, it reduces their chances of winning the 2016 elections,” Kobby Akyeampong stated as reason for the NPP MPs’ action.
