Appiah approached on Black Stars

Though he was tight-lipped on the exact role he will play, the former Juventus midfield dynamo is expected to help the technical team to be led by Israeli Avram Grant.

Appiah confirmed this on Saturday, December 13 on an Accra-based radio station, Joy FM.

“I am not doing it for the FA,” he said. “I am doing it for Ghana.”

Appiah, who is the first Ghanaian to win the Italian scudetto, is said to have played a pivotal role in the backroom in Brazil. But for him, many believe, events that unfolded would have been worse.

He disclosed that a coaching profession for him “will happen” but it would not start with the senior national soccer team.

Appiah, popularly known as ‘Tornado’, said he wants to start his coaching career with the Under-17 team, the Black Starlets.

Appiah is regarded as a Ghanaian football legend after securing the Holy Grail for the country in 2006, when he led the four-time African champions to the world cup.
