Samsung engages local app developers in Ghana

The Samsung “Apps Challenge” comes of this afternoon at Icon House, Stanbic Heights. As part of Samsung’s quest to foster technological development, Samsung Electronics West Africa (SEWA) launched the “Apps Challenge” at the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Expo in November.

The “Apps Challenge” was a competition that brought together software developers all over the country to create local applications for Samsung.

Contestants competed in teams of at least two individuals, and were tasked to come up with potential software for Samsung devices. The most impressive software will be adopted by Samsung and will be installed on upcoming devices.

Jaspreet Singh, Director for IM at SEWA said, “Samsung believes every individual is blessed with ideas and the Apps Challenge will tap into the creative energies of individuals interested in technology”.

“A series of mentorship sessions helped contestants to fine-tune their ideas for the upcoming finale, and also to prepare them for their future in the industry”, Jaspreet added.

Finalists will use the opportunity to showcase their apps while making a case to the Judges on why their software should be chosen. Applications that will be demonstrated are the Flippy app, Radio pack, Promolante, Mobihelp app, the Ghana Place finder and the Vicinity app.

This afternoon’s finale promises to be exciting and keenly contested as all teams are highly optimistic about their chances ahead of the show down. The finalists are cautiously confident of being adjudged the best today.

The winning team will take away $1000, a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 handset and have their software installed on all upcoming Samsung mobile phones in 2015.
