Dzamefe furious; determined to strike FA

Information available to Scandal suggests that Chairman of the Brazil Presidential Commission, Appeals Court Judge, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, is furious with the Ghana Football Association for refusing to surrender the full 7.1 million paid to the GFA earlier last month by FIFA as Prize Monies for Ghana’s participation in the 2014 World Cup.

Impeccable sources tell the this paper that the Appeals Court Judge, unhappy at what he sees as insubordination on the part of the GFA, has vowed to members and staff of the Commission as well as some close confidantes, that he will strike the Football Association in the Commission’s report which is expected to be finally presented in a few weeks’ time.

The Commission set up to investigate issues surrounding the appearance of Ghana at the 2014 World Cup, last month ordered the Football Association to hand over to government, all the monies paid to the Association by FIFA as Appearance Fees contrary to an earlier decision by Cabinet and government that the Football Association only reimburse the 4million dollars extended to the association for the team’s participation in Brazil.

The Football Association however went ahead to present a cheque of just over $4million to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in accordance with the decision of Cabinet; a cheque duly accepted by the Ministry.

This action and the subsequent request of the FA for government to clarify its stance on the money, on whether it had revoked the earlier Cabinet decision, is said to have hit a rare nerve of the Chairman of the Commission who is said to have told various people that he will focus the report of the commission on the FA.

This latest objective is said to have influenced the Commission in its decision to request for an extension of its tenure for another month so it can properly scrutinize every nook and cranny of the FA’s operation and expose any issues which may come up. This request has since been granted by government.

The Commission was set up after the disastrous outing of Ghana at the Brazil 2014 World Cup. The sittings of the Commission revealed various acts of serious malfunction and incompetence in particularly how the Ministry handled its decision to airlift hundreds of Ghanaians to Brazil, with reports of inflation of prices of goods and services, missing monies and total mismanagement of the funds allocated to the Ministry for the project.
