Gov’t to open accounts for WC money – Ayariga

Minister of Youth and Sports Mahama Ayariga has informed Parliament that his outfit was on the verge of opening an account at the Bank of Ghana to transfer the four million dollars loan repaid to it by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

This was after government pre financed the payment of the Black Stars appearance fees at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Addressing Parliament last week, the Minister says plans were underway to transfer the money to an escrow account with the Bank of Ghana.

“Mr. Speaker in the response to a request by the Presidential Commission of Enquiry into the Brazil 2014 World Cup, the Ministry is arranging through the controller and Accountant Generals Department to open an escrow account with the Bank of Ghana to deposit the advance of four million, eight thousand , seven hundred and sixty one dollars refunded by the GFA,” Mr. Ayariga added.
