2015 Budget will yield to nothing – Sir John

Former General Secretary of the opposition NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie believes the 2015 budget which will be read today is just to deteriorate the situation in the country currently.

Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, will be presenting the 2015 Budget Statement and Economic Policy later today, in what many believe would be driven by major cuts in government expenditure.

November 19, 2014 budget reading is expected to outline reforms in the granting of tax exemptions to businesses as part of broad measures to cut waste while focusing on raising revenue.

But Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie affectionately called “Sir John” insists government will rather increase utility bills despite the hardship Ghanaians are facing in recent times.

“This budget will yield to nothing. They [NDC] will rather be increasing things. They have nothing better to offer this nation,” he said

Speaking on OKAY FM’s Ade Akye Abia programme, Sir John opined that the NDC-led government has proven over the years that they have no knowledge of leading the nation to the “promised land”.

He described President John Dramani Mahama as a “visionless” leader whose style of leadership has brought hardship to the country.

“The hardship now is unbearable. This government is always seeking unnecessary loans. Mahama has turned himself into a ‘Promise man’. He goes about promising without fulfilling,” he said.

The immediate former NPP chief scribe is very optimistic that, NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo “is the only person that can salvage Ghana from the hard surface. I only pray Nana Addo becomes president”.
